David Markovich
David has worked on building sites, driven trucks, milked cows, worked as a research and policy economist and helped build a refugee camp following the Rwandan genocide. Over the past few decades, David has worked as a lawyer.
David grew up in the Gong and has lived and worked around Australia, New York City and Washington DC, USA, London and Birmingham, England, Simferopol, Crimea, Ukraine, and Jerusalem, Israel. David is thrilled to have made his roots in Perth and the South West and is involved with various local community groups.
He holds a B.Comm (Econ) with merit, LLB (Hons 1st class) and a Grad Cert in Migration Law and Practice (Social Justice Scholarship). He is admitted to practise law in Western Australia, the High Court of Australia and in England and Wales.
In July 2026 the Law Society of Western Australia named David one of three finalists for Regional Practitioner of the Year in its Annual Awards. The winner is announced at Crown Perth on 4 September 2026.
In 2021, a pro bono client nomination saw David's work recognised as a finalist in the Attorney General's Community Service Law Awards. David carried out that work while at his previous firm; he is now the principal of Markovich Legal.
Enforcing rights and resolving disputes
General and commercial litigation and dispute resolution are David's principal areas of practice. David has worked as a solicitor in Western Australia and England.
Trial work
David appears as Counsel in civil and criminal trials. Engaged pro bono, David acted as Counsel for the RSPCA for many years in horrific animal welfare cases. David regularly represents people accused of drug crimes, assaults, driving offences, stealing and other criminal offences.
Civil cases go to trial less often, but David appears as Counsel in disputes involving restraining orders, breach of duty, consumer rights, bankruptcy and insolvency, employment disputes and estate disputes. David appears as Counsel in civil and criminal appeals in the District Court, Supreme Court and Federal Courts.
